The Isle of Skye, famed for its beauty, setting, history and romance was recently voted the 4th best island in the world by National Geographic.
More recently the Telegraph awarded it the best sunset in the world. Hilly peninsulas and points, boasting wonderful names like Trotternish, Waternish, Duirinish and Sleat, radiate out haphazardly from the central massif of the Cuillin Hills, producing a succession of one, narrow sea lochs and bays, many with small villages and scattered crofting townships.
Set in the ‘Garden of Skye’ amongst some of the worlds most beautiful scenery, the luxurious Skye Window House has floor to ceiling windows and panoramic views of Knock Bay, Knock Castle and the majestic Sound of Sleat, the view stretching to the Knoydart mountains and the snow-capped peaks of the Highlands.
Within easy reach are golden sandy beaches, beautiful and sometimes challenging walking and climbing, as well as wonderful places for lunch with local pubs, art galleries, Armadale Castle and the Clan Donald Visitors Centre all nearby.

The SKYE WINDOW HOUSE is located in Sleat, the garden of Skye, on the south-east peninsula of the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Famous for its mild temperate climate this is the greenest part of Skye. Skye is connected to the mainland via the Skye Bridge although it is still possible to reach the island by ferry. The house is less than 20 minute drive from the Skye Bridge along excellent scenic roads. It is only a few minutes drive from Armadale Pier where one can catch a ferry to Mallaig on the Scottish mainland.
CAR | The easiest way to reach the Isle of Skye is via the Skye Bridge, part of the A87. It is a 2 hour drive from Inverness (the closest airport) There is also an aerodrome in nearby Broadford on Skye itself. The route takes you along some of the most stunning scenery and some of the best roads in the UK. Car hire is reasonably inexpensive at Inverness airport with services offered by all major operators. It is about 4 hours from Glasgow and about 5 hours from Edinburgh. It takes about 12 hours to drive from London.
TRAIN | You can travel to Fort William or the Kyle of Lochalsh on the rail network, which includes an OVERNIGHT SLEEPER service from London Euston. In Fort William you can catch the JACOBITE STEAM TRAIN to Mallaig made famous by Harry Potter – a truly stunning way to reach Skye.
AIR | Inverness airport is a 2 hour drive along some of the most exhilarating roads in the United Kingdom. Inverness is served by several UK airports including London Gatwick, London Luton, Southampton, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Jersey. It is also served by international airports including Zurich, Sumburgh, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. You can also fly to Glasgow or Edinburgh airports although the drive is longer at 4 hours and 5 hours respectively.
SEA | A car ferry services operated by CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE (CALMAC) departing from Mallaig (on the mainland) – arriving Armadale pier on Skye. The network extends to Raasay and the small Isles – Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna. They also offer routes from the Isle of Skye to the Isle of Lewis.
Perhaps the most beautiful way to reach Skye is over the Kylerhea Straits on the community owned and operated turn table SKYE FERRY which runs between Easter and October. This stretch of water is the shortest distance from the Isle of Skye to the mainland and was in centuries past used by cattle drovers to swim their cattle across – this being the closest point on the Isle of Skye to the mainland.
