More recently the Telegraph awarded it the best sunset in the world. Hilly peninsulas and points, boasting wonderful names like Trotternish, Waternish, Duirinish and Sleat, radiate out haphazardly from the central massif of the Cuillin Hills, producing a succession of one, narrow sea lochs and bays, many with small villages and scattered crofting townships.

Set in the ‘Garden of Skye’ amongst some of the worlds most beautiful scenery, the luxurious Skye Window House has floor to ceiling windows and panoramic views of Knock Bay, Knock Castle and the majestic Sound of Sleat, the view stretching to the Knoydart mountains and the snow-capped peaks of the Highlands.

Within easy reach are golden sandy beaches, beautiful and sometimes challenging walking and climbing, as well as wonderful places for lunch with local pubs, art galleries, Armadale Castle and the Clan Donald Visitors Centre all nearby.

  • “This must be one of the most spectacular views on the island…and all to ourselves!

A lovely house…we enjoyed the light infusion, and log fires in the evenings.

A fabulous week, as we were treated to wall to wall sunshine! Fishmonger delivers on Fridays…so we indulged with king scallops and halibut…fantastic!”

Jane and Haych | UK | August 2015
  • “We’ve really enjoyed our stay in the Window House – thank you. It really is all about the views!

The weather has been kind to us and we’ve walked every day. Unfortunately didn’t catch the White Tailed Eagle that was soaring above the area on Monday”

Nick and family | Lancashire | New Year 2015/16
  • “Third time in this lovely house… It starts to feel little bit like home.

Cannot wait until next November when we will be back”

Gerald and Christina | Christmas 2015
  • “While staying at this house, I have fallen in love with Skye and the people on this island. We have been to the Fairy Pools, Quirang, the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, dinosaur beach, Talisker distillery and so many more places.

It is the people who have made this place special and coming home to this beautiful house made it even more special.

My family is originally from this area so it has been fantastic to see what they saw and experience our origins. I will definitely be back and will always have Skye in my heart”

    Cathy | Western Florida | USA | November 2015
  • “It’s hard to believe it’s November. We’ve had such good weather since we arrived last week so can’t complain about the one day of torrential rain.

We’ve had such a good time here. It’s been a hard week what with lying in bed watching the moon, an incredibly bright Venus and then sun rise, watching the ever-changing light and colours of the sea and mountains of Knoydart, walking to the beach at Camusanary at the foot of the Cuillins and cycling the amazing coast road to Tarskavaig and on to Ord on a bright, clear morning.

And, of course, staying in this beautiful house has made it all the more special. Thank you! Have a feeling we might just be back”

Anne and Simon | Glasgow | November 2015
  • “We had an incredibly relaxing week, here in the Window House.

Spectacular views, changing with the weather – especially loved the two arm chairs by the window!

    Will definitely be back”

Claire and Gregory | October 2015
  • “Great stay, beautiful property with majestic views”

George, Slava, Tom and Jo | Australia | October 2015
  • “Here on honeymoon. And finding it so very, very hard to leave! Feel like we’ve been blessed by both the weather and the house – so hard to tear oneself away to do anything really.

Thank you so much for all. We hope to return”

Toni and Kevin | Tunbridge Wells | October 2015
  • “Another magnificent stay in Sleat. Last year in the White House and this hear in the Window House with family.

Had to tear myself away from the windows even at night-time with the moonlight on the sea. Weather was very kind to us – we even swam in the sea at Point of Sleat and had a dip in the Fairy Pools.

Lunch at Kinloch lodge on the only rainy day was as always, a real treat! We also loved the trip to Raasay. Hope to come back again”

Kate and Mark | October 2015
  • “Wonderful house and a very restorative few days.

Enjoyed every minute despite the weather”

Paul and Family | Manchester | October 2015
  • “Amazing place!! Lovely view!! We got married here – it was mega!! Beautiful house!! Amazing stay”

Ellie and John | September 2015
  • “What a wonderful week we have had here! It has been a pleasure waking up and returning early evening to this incredible, ever changing and panoramic view!

There is so much to see on your beautiful island – we will have to come back! With very many thanks for making this such a special play to stay”

Gary and Lorna | Guernsey | August 2015
  • “Magical mystical landscape.

We have had a wonderful week here exploring Skye. It’s a wonderful place here and we have loved the panoramic views and the luxe Scandi styling.

This is a very special place.

    Thanks again”

Sonja, Chris, Imogen and Max | August 2015
  • “Had a lovely week in a great house – especially enjoyed sitting down for dinner in the Hans Wegner chairs looking over the Sound of Sleat.

Highlights included a trip to Loch Coruisk on the Misty Isle, otter watching at Kylerhea, the walk to the Point of Sleat (beautiful beach but sadly too many jellyfish for a swim) and wild swimming at Tarskavaig and Loch Scavaig.

Fantastic seafood at the Oyster Shed at Carbost cheered us up on a rainy day”

Tom and Family | Dewsbury | August 2015
  • “Beautiful house in a beautiful spot.

Enjoyed being on Skye again. Recommend trip to Rassay, Glenbrittle/Fairy Pools (Jann’s cafe in Dunvegan for cake!), Cafe Sia, Red Skye Restaurant.

    Thank you for having us”

The Jones | July and August 2015
  • “What an amazing place.

We really enjoyed the stay. Will definitely be back.

Views from the house are just too good.

    Didn’t want to leave.

    Thank you so much”

Raj and Family | USA & World | July 2015
  • “What a tonic! The three of us had the most fantastic time in Skye and coming home to the Skye Window House everyday made it even more perfect.

The views never look the same and whether it is misty, rainy or sunny we still kept staring out the window.

We think this holiday has been true food for the soul and it has been a breath of fresh air to step away from the crazy, busy and hectic life that we normally lead. The Fairy Pools, the coral beaches, the fabulous walks, the boat trip at Elgol and scummy pizza’s at Sia means we are returning home with many happy memories. Thank you for a great holiday”

Chris, Clare and Isla | Banchory | July 2015
  • “Words can’t convey how we felt being here.

Brilliant sunshine or good old Scottish rain, the views are utterly breathtaking.

The mist in the morning, sunrise and sunsets and the full moon over the bay – tantalising.

We loved this setting, we loved the Isle of Skye – spoilt for a whole week”

Mark, Cathie, Betty and Greger | Sauchie | June and July 2015
  • “We enjoyed to be back.

The new armchairs made the house even more perfect.

    Looking forward to December”

Gerald and Christina | June 2015
  • “Amazing 2nd week of our Honeymoon in this beautiful house with stunning views.

Explored Skye, very lovely, especially Storr, the Coral beaches, the fairy pools and Dunvegan.

Kylerhea was brilliant for seeing the sea eagles, seals, otters, dolphins and porpoises although we did see and capture on film Dolphins in the bay in front of the house.

Red Skye restaurant was also fab for local food.

    Thank you so much”

    The Westons | Wiltshire | June 2015
  • “Had a lovely stay.

Fantastic views from this very comfortable cottage. Skye magnificent in the sunshine all week”

    The Riddles | Dollar | April 2015
  • “Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Your house is warm and inviting and the views are spectacular.

Thanks for your recommendations, we loved Ord beach, the walk (climb) to Knock Castle, the Stein Inn and Eilean Iarmain, Talisker distillery and the nearby Oyster shed. The boys really enjoyed the activities, at Armadale Activities.

    With best wishes,”

Carolyn, Matt, Thomas and Henry | St Albans | March 2015

    We will be back!

    Thank you”

Karen and John | London | August 2014
  • “We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Skye Window House. I can’t praise it highly enough.

The views down to the sound of Sleat and across to the mainland are spectacular from both floors and light floods every room.

It’s in a wonderful location – away from the busier parts of Skye (though nothing in Skye is that busy), and with a really lovely pub 10 mins drive away.

The decoration is Scandinavian, stylish and all brand new. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful – any issues or question we had were answered helpfully and quickly”

The Grodzinski Family | August 2014

The SKYE WINDOW HOUSE is located in Sleat, the garden of Skye, on the south-east peninsula of the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Famous for its mild temperate climate this is the greenest part of Skye. Skye is connected to the mainland via the Skye Bridge although it is still possible to reach the island by ferry. The house is less than 20 minute drive from the Skye Bridge along excellent scenic roads. It is only a few minutes drive from Armadale Pier where one can catch a ferry to Mallaig on the Scottish mainland.Skye-Window-House-map

CAR | The easiest way to reach the Isle of Skye is via the Skye Bridge, part of the A87. It is a 2 hour drive from Inverness (the closest airport) There is also an aerodrome in nearby Broadford on Skye itself. The route takes you along some of the most stunning scenery and some of the best roads in the UK. Car hire is reasonably inexpensive at Inverness airport with services offered by all major operators. It is about 4 hours from Glasgow and about 5 hours from Edinburgh. It takes about 12 hours to drive from London.

TRAIN | You can travel to Fort William or the Kyle of Lochalsh on the rail network, which includes an OVERNIGHT SLEEPER service from London Euston. In Fort William you can catch the JACOBITE STEAM TRAIN to Mallaig made famous by Harry Potter – a truly stunning way to reach Skye.

AIR | Inverness airport is a 2 hour drive along some of the most exhilarating roads in the United Kingdom. Inverness is served by several UK airports including London Gatwick, London Luton, Southampton, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Jersey. It is also served by international airports including Zurich, Sumburgh, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. You can also fly to Glasgow or Edinburgh airports although the drive is longer at 4 hours and 5 hours respectively.

SEA | A car ferry services operated by CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE (CALMAC) departing from Mallaig (on the mainland) – arriving Armadale pier on Skye. The network extends to Raasay and the small Isles – Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna. They also offer routes from the Isle of Skye to the Isle of Lewis.

Perhaps the most beautiful way to reach Skye is over the Kylerhea Straits on the community owned and operated turn table SKYE FERRY which runs between Easter and October. This stretch of water is the shortest distance from the Isle of Skye to the mainland and was in centuries past used by cattle drovers to swim their cattle across – this being the closest point on the Isle of Skye to the mainland.
